#23 The end

Dear Learning 2.0 Diary,
This has been an interesting journey and I feel I have only just touched the edge of the iceberg.
Our profession needs to embrace technology and this has been an interesting and informative way to embrace it. Hip hip hooray to Learning 2.0.
Flickr and You Tube have totally enchanted me and I am sure will be on the forefront of my favourites. I actually had the opportunity to show my sixteen year old son something he didn't know about the Internet so I am impressed.
The Internet is a wonderful tool and by having this opportunity to explore and use several complex and different sites it has helped me to overcome my reservations in looking for
alternates.
Perhaps this blog writing is unleashing the creative side of me as I refer to it as a public diary. I was never good at letter writing but this is so much more interesting.
When I started this program I had no idea of what rescources were available on the net. Many thanks Learning 2.0 for giving me the opportunity to start to explore the big wide world out there. I'm sure my learning has only just begun............A Thanks

#22 Audio Books

Having toured around the website I find it intriguing. Certainly good for print handicapped people and for books out of print.
Listening to Alone by Edgar Allan Poe for me was an interesting experience. The little matchgirl missed all the beautiful illustrations and when I listened to the The travelling musicians I found myself looking at the graph on the screen instead of listening.
However like all things there is a time and place. Teenagers who seem to listen to everything nowdays would be a huge market for the ebooks/ audio books if the content appealed to them.
It certainly would be a bonus when studying a text at school and perhaps further encourage them to be interested in literary pursuits.
My personal choice would be sitting in a big comfy chair with a cup of tea and reading a book......A

#21 Podcasts

I was busy looking around for Poetry Slam podcasts and nearly forgot the time....
Several different ones cost money to download. I will certainly invesigate further in this area.

#20 You Tube Here I come underpressure....

#19 Web 2.0 tools

Having selected several of the award winners...I seem to pick the ones that needed to be subscribed to. I often wonder how the owners of websites make money...How do they!!!!
Anyway after several hits I came across Lulu.com-Self publishing site.....excellent. The array of products (at a cost) however the books, calendars and also desk top publishing that you organize over the web mean's that I won't have to leave the office ever again. Lulu will organize to publish your own manuscript, book of photos etc.
I particulary liked the Community tab where you can enter forum's with writers, find out about organisations and events, receive their newsletters and add to their blog. Lulu claims to be the world's largest community of writers..... The website certainly is updated all the time and seems very easy to use.
As for a Library application I think this site would mainly be handy for private use. However it certainly would be a handy tool to pass onto all those budding writers out there as it seems like a logicial place to start.

#18 Zoho Writer

Looking at this site I wonder why I have just upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007..... There is no need for anything to be handwritten with all these programs on offer. I will certainly come back and explore this site further as I feel it will help me with my publications that I need to produce for work...a

#17 Sandbox

Been to the beach and played in the sand...A

#16 What's in a Wiki???

When I first started at the Library one of the most popular questions was "Which encyclopedia should I buy?" Parents where always concerned that their children wouldn't have access to information for homework. We however would realise that as soon as an encyclopedia was published the information would be out of date. Wiki's by pass that problem......

What's in a Wiki...
From Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki

Why Wiki?
Easy to use
Web-based
Simple syntax (don't need to know HTML)
Anyone can make changes -- no more waiting for the Webmaster to get around to your requested changes.
Many free and open source options
Flexible and extensible

Why Not?
Too open -- "I don't want someone changing my writing!"
Disorganized

Wiki's the way of the future!!!! It will be interesting to see how these evolve....

#15 Learning 2.0

Technology has certainly impacted on our Library Culture. From my first very physical labour intense beginning at the start of my career in libraries to the present day embracing of the big wide world of computers the chasm is vast and deep. It is only when we look back and see where we have come from and the advancements that we have made do you realise the journey we are on. Our journey is only partially there and we certainly need to embrace change and further equip ourselves for the future. It will be an adventure and Learning 2.0 has certainly opened my eyes to the possibilities that are out there and some of the new skills that I need to aquire.
"In Web 2.0, the Web becomes the center of a new digital lifestyle that changes our culture and touches every aspect of our lives" ~ Tom Storey

#14 Technorati

I enjoyed my tour of Technorati. It certainly would be useful in finding information from Blogs.
Enjoyed the video of Helene explaining the draw for the laptop computer..
There were 976 entries for Learning 2.0 in the Blog directory and 786 blog posts in the tag directory.
It was great to see the videos of the footy etc......If you were doing a blog to get your message out there it would be handy to tag key words.....A

Dear diary, Thought I might be looking at recipes sadly mistaken....I think it is a good idea for people who like to keep track of their websites.... It is amazing to think that people are out there solving the problem of having to keep track of the websites that they like so they dont overload their favourties..... I seem to be lacking in time to search the web however I am sure my children....we are a two computer household would have the time.

Loved the you tube.......poetic justice that explaining a problem in the computer world he demonstrates his point with his finger and lots of cardboard cutouts.....A

Sometimes you just hit the wall.............

#12 Rollyo

Let's just try one more time

#11 Library thing

I have visited this site many times and have often recommended it to school age children who are interested in books. It is a great way to encourage them to be more aware of the different books that they have and that are around and to give to teach them awareness of authors, titles etc.....A

#10 Fun, Fun, Fun

Loved doing this one...Will certainly use Image Generator...A

Certainly liked this one....Managed to spend quite a few hours here.....A

#9 Finding Feeds....

When this is the third time I have typed this so it is probably shorter than I wrote the first time.... Thought I would do something different with images (Just playing) and yep I forgot to save. Perhaps it is the time of the night......Anyway I have had a play with the different sites and my computer. This new computer has Windows Vista and didnt like the site Feedster or trying to get back into my blog, which scared me alittle as I thought all this work had disappeared into la la land..... Anyway we are back on track.. Visiting these sites makes you realise how much information is out there. I liked the Topix net site and have added to my favourites. When I typed in Geelong all the current News items came up...makes you think that perhaps Newspapers are a thing of the past....Not quite the same as sitting out in the sun drinking coffee and reading all the Sunday papers......A.

#8 RSS Really Simple Syndication

Yep got it...Have added the Alia site and Library Bytes to my Bloglines account. Everything seems to start with a b.....A.

#7 Technology

During the last few months my knowledge of Technology has taken a huge leap of advancement. It's like entering another world and one that sometimes makes you feel uncomfortable. Younger members of our society find the computer second nature with the subject being taught extensively at school and often this frustrates the pen and paper society.

Several years ago I saw the need to become familiar with the computer and so have been self taught which might explain the roundabout way I do things sometimes and also the need to talk myself through certain procedures. Using an accounting program and creating menus and posters certainly exposed me to a small section of the powerful tool that the computer can be.

Due to a change of position I have had a total about face of my needs to grapple with modern technology. The ability to navigate the email system, saving attachments and even assigning myself a signature has become second nature in the last few months. Upgrading and installing programs on my newly acquired laptop even knowing what the kids are talking about, has seen the learning curve climb. The completing of my first PowerPoint presentation and using a memory stick to transfer data has been enlightening . The purchase of a digital camera along with teaching myself Publisher and creating posters and flyer's for my position has strengthen my need to become more computer savvy. Flickr, Wicki, Blogs, my face and even listening to Pod casts over the computer has just given me an insight into what I didn't know but is something that will certainly influence me in the future.

Technology is the way of the future and will always be evolving. The whole wide world of the web certainly is one that we can embrace and move forward with. Having the opportunity to view areas that are expanding through Learning 2.0 has been extremely beneficial and enjoyable....A

#6 More Flickr fun.

Well I am having fun downloading photos and creating Trading cards.
The Montager certainly intriuges me and once I have a few more photos on my pc I intend to try my hand at the program. It will make an interesting screensaver. Extremely cool program....A

This is an outstanding website with an abundance of Photos. Having just bought a digital camera a two weeks ago it is certianly a website that I will use. There is certainly an abundace of talented photographers out there.
I particularily liked the photos from code poet
I think the angles of the subjects and the clarity of the actual photo and perhaps the usual subject matter..........A

Underpressure 2

Its amazing what you can do with the internet. Its also amazing what passwords you can forget and never remember again. We survive on a series of passwords and addresses nowdays. What ever happened to a normal address....
Anyway here goes....A
